Long Island Town Hopes to Move Carnegie Library for Hotel

One of the few Carnegie libraries on Long Island may be saved if local residents can move the building and raise funds for its restoration.

The board of trustees of Patchogue, N.Y., has convinced Setauket-based developer TRITEC Real Estate Company, Inc., to move the abandoned building. TRITEC intends to build a new town square, 240 condo units, a 37,550-square-foot retail complex, and a 100-room hotel, on the site.

PATCHOGUE STORIES - MOVING BEYOND GRIEF AND ANGER TOWARDS HEALING AND CHANGE
Greetings! If the young men accused of Marcelo's death had known him, had heard his story, would that terrible night have happened? We'll never know. If you agree that its critical for our youth and for all of us to get to know each other better, then this is a performing arts project that we know can help and that needs your support.
Here are four ways you can help:

1. Come see our show...attend our workshop.PLAYBACK THEATER (NYC) SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 2009-7:30-9PM. The Congregational Church of Patchogue 95 East Main Street Patchogue, NY.Rev. Dwight Lee Wolter has opened his church as an important gathering place for the Ecuadorian community and others during this difficult time. This, our first performance will be strictly non-religious and take place in the reception area.Playback Theater does not bring a prepared script, rather we'll invite people to tell stories and then act them out on the spot...play them back using improvisation, free form hip hop, music and movement. This has proven very effective because people are not invited to a "conflict resolution session" or a debate...but rather to a live exciting show for the whole family. We have found that sharing our perspectives, hearing the stories of others and seeing them embodied on the stage with art and humanity is a powerful way to build empathy and a stronger community.
PLAYBACK WORKSHOP SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 2009-Noon-5PM. We will be conducting an introductory playback workshop in the afternoon at the church. This will give local actors, dancers, musicians and others a first hand idea of what it would mean to build a Patchogue Playback company. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. More on training.

2. Become a sponsor. Sponsoring Individuals and Groups. (We want your name Here). We hope to have as many sponsors as possible from Patchogue and beyond; education, government, religious, business, labor, fraternal, arts, cultural and other community groups. Please contact Paul McIsaac @ 631-537-7889 or
paulmci@optinline.net

3. How can we make this Playback workshop and performance FREE ?We want this to be free to all comers, we want to remove financial barriers for all, due to the timeliness and urgency of this work. To do this we need your help. Here's a breakdown our costs for seven members doing a noon to 4PM workshop and the evening show.Travel Playback $200. Honorarium Playback actors $700.Noon to 10PM custodial fee $150.Advertising $500. Total.......................$1550. Contributions are tax deductible if made out to the "Center for Playback Theatre" and put "Patchogue Project" in the memo line and sent to the Center for Playback Theatre PO Box 714 New Paltz, NY 12561.

4. This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long term project for Patchogue and the whole South Coast of Long Island. Please spread the word (click on "Forward email" below) and contact me if you have questions or ideas. I look forward to working with you. Sincerely,Paul McIsaacpaulmci@optonline.net---(631) 537-7888
